The CTSA was formed to market Canada as a destination for international sports events, and the Canadian Curling Association has played a leading role over the years in hosting world curling championships.
“Sport tourism is the fastest growing segment of the tourism industry, ” said Stremlaw. “We look forward to working with all stakeholders to continue to build the sport tourism industry in communities across Canada.”
The election took place during the 2014 Sports Events Congress in Edmonton, which featured a number of keynote addresses from prominent sports figures, including 2010 men’s curling Olympic gold-medallist Kevin Martin. Additionally, delegates took part in a mini-bonspiel at the Saville Centre.
Stremlaw’s term as Chair will last 12 months, and will be up for renewal annually. He will take the organization into 2015, during which Canada will play host to the Pan American and Parapan American Games in Toronto, in addition to the 2015 WFG Continental Cup of Curling in January in Calgary and the 2015 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship in April in Halifax.
