On March 24, at Ninh Binh People’s Committee Office, members of United Nations (UN) Day of VESAK 2014 Organising Committee had a meeting with the Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism and leaders of Ha Nam, Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh Provinces about the preparations for the organization of VESAK 2014 at Bai Dinh Pagoda.

The meeting was held and chaired by Mr. Vuong Duy Bien – Deputy Director of Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism, with the attendance of Most Ven. Thich Thanh Nhieu – Standing Vice President of National Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (NVBS) cum Co-President of International Council of Day of Vesak (ICDV), members from the Executive Council of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ninh Binh Province, leaders of Government Committee for Religious Affairs, National Administration of Tourism, leaders of People’s Council and People’s Committee from Thanh Hoa, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh provinces along with other related departments..

Most Ven. Thich Duc Thien reported in detail the preparation process for the festival. At the moment, the organizers are concentrating on allocating hotels for delegates and guests in Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa and Ninh Binh provinces and proposing projects to train volunteers who are monks and nuns students from the Vietnam Buddhist University and other universities to serve the VESAK 2014.

The plan to build the project for a Buddhist Cultural Fair at Bai Dinh Temple includes the traditional arts and foods of Vietnam, inspecting the content for the opening and closing ceremonies at the festival. All the programs will be done by subcommittees in detail and specifically, proposing to the related departments to support NVBS in decorating, hanging banners, slogans from the airport to the venues of the festival. As anticipated, the UN Day of VESAK 2014 will welcome 3500 international delegates, monks, nuns and tens of thousands of Buddhists to participate in; it is hoped that all departments will collaborate bsetter to organize the festival successfully. Also, at the meeting, Most Ven. Thich Nhat Tu, Ven. Thich Tho Lac and leaders from other departments stated their opinions on the preparation stages in the current times.

At the meeting, Deputy Director Vuong Duy Bien confirmed that by all means we needed to hold the VESAK successfully. This is an important and advantageous event for our country. From this, we will have a chance to promote images of our country and people to our friends all around the world.

Later, members in the organizing board will soon complete the scenario of projects in detail of activities that will take place at the festival, such as the opening and closing ceremonies, arts performance, welcoming delegates, training volunteers to enhance security, standard and enthusiasm to serve the festival, on which we will focus on scenarios that have a large-scale and traditional values.

Deputy Director longed for NVBS to cooperate with other departments and provinces to urgently accomplish the plan content of the VESAK 2014 organization, getting ready to launch the festival.
