Sports and events Tourism Exchange

Issues on how to use sports to promote tourism will be discussed during the conference. [photo/]South Africa will host the Sports & Events Tourism Exchange (SETE) Exhibition and Conference from Ocotber 22-24 in Durban.

The event, which is expected to play an important role in promoting sports tourism in South Africa, will be held at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC).

The country has been making concrete efforts to promote and uplift Sports Tourism and the three-day event is aimed at positioning South Africa as a world-class sports tourism destination.

Hundreds of sports fans were in South Africa for the World Cup in 2010. [photo/] Sports tourism is one of the fastest-growing areas in the global travel and tourism industry because of the synergies that already exist between Hospitality, Leisure, Sports, and Tourism Networks.

South Africa has already benefitted in this regard when hosting major international sporting events including three previous world cups; the 1995 Rugby World Cup, the 2003 Cricket World Cup and the 2010 FIFA World Cup which included the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Topics like Growing Sports Tourism on the African Continent and How to Manage a Successful Domestic Event aimed at Promoting Domestic Travel will be highlighted and discussed in depth by global and regional experts.

The SETE 2013 is taking a proactive move to strategically align Africa, as an arena that has the potential and capacity to host international events and sports teams, especially during winter months for training purposes.
