Singapore Sports Hub Tourism
KUCHING, 24 January 2014: Singapore will open its new sports hub mid this year in time to host a major international tennis tournament in October.
The brand new facility features a 55, 000 seat capacity stadium and so-called lifestyle facilities, a water sports centre and will be the home of Singapore’s sports programmes to prepare teams for the Olympics and Asian Games.
The first major event will be the Women’s Tennis Championship that Singapore will host from 2014 to 2018.
The sports hub is just one of many projects Singapore is embarking on to improve the quality of life for its citizens and build lifestyle and leisure activities to improve tourism appeal.
A national art gallery is also due to open mid-2015 in the former city hall. Singapore Sports Hub.
The Singapore Sports Hub will feature a cluster of affordable lifestyle facilities including a retail mall, restaurants, skate park, lawn bowl green, climbing wall, beach volleyball court, hard courts, sports library and museum.
Singapore Tourist Board’s media presentation states it will be a “catalyst for the emergence of sport in Singapore” and will provide a platform to elevate the “sporting ecosystem” to a regional and global scale.
Located on a 35-hectare site in Kallang, it features a national stadium with 55, 000-seats, a retractable seating capability and a design that allows fast reconfiguration of the stadium’s bowl to accommodate rugby, cricket, football, athletics and concerts events.
Aquatic Centre
The water sports centre is designed to cater to elite athletes, premier aquatic competitions and the general public. It features a 50-metre competition pool, a 50-metre training pool and a five metre deep diving pool. These pools meet Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) standards, and are suitable for swimming, water-polo, diving and synchronised swimming events.
